Well, final day of training. We didn't actually do a whole lot. Checked out of the hotel in the morning, then went to the seinankaikan. We spent the morning with our groups again, watching an example video of a lesson. Liz had been working at the same school for 3 years, and had a good connection with them. It looked like fun, and I really hope that my classes can be that good.

We talked about the first lesson and ideas. I want to do a self introduction; I need to decide if I want to give more info and do it in Japanese, or keep it very simple and do it in English. I'm supposed to have more than 10 lessons with each class, so it would be okay for me to spend a lesson just doing introduction. The only problem is that I don't want them sitting the entire time the first time we meet. or any time we meet, for that matter.

For lunch, I went to eat with Michael, an Aussie JHS who's in my area, and a female JHS teacher. We went to a little sushi place she had found, and I had chirashi zushi. This is sushi that's made in a bowl. The rice is there, and then the fish and other things (mine had egg and fishcake) are set on top. It was yummy. Michael and I both do martial arts (he does Karate right now), and he's got a lot more knowledge of Komaki, so I'm glad to know him.

After lunch, we met with our Area supervisors, and then went to sign our contracts. Graham is my supervisor, and he confirmed that I don't start school until the 19th, and that I'll have some more training before then for the phonics program. He also gave me my phone number, which will go into effect sometime Monday morning. yeay! I can start the application for internet service now. 0568-71-8955, by the way. I figure it's safe enough, what Japanese marketer is going to be looking here? The contract signing took way longer than was scheduled, and I got out of there around 4:45pm. After an hour long ride home, I ate some noodles real quick, and pretty much collapsed. I stayed up last night playing spider solitaire, and didn't get near enough sleep. The ride home was long, particularly because I had the heavy materials to carry. I had intended to get over to the Internet Cafe and set up a time to meet with Glen and go around Komaki tomorrow, but it'll have to wait until tomorrow. I hope he forgives me. When I woke up, Thomas Crown Affair was on TV, dubbed. It wasn't too strange. I like that movie, and started to read through the manual a little more while I watched. I have a lot of work to do-- mostly getting in contact with my schools and teachers, and buying some materials, like prizes and stuffed animals. I don't suppose anyone could get a few rolls of pennies and send them to me? As soon as I find out how many schools I have, I also want to somehow get more Japanese language books about San Diego (I brought one with me). Anyway, that was my day, it's gotten really late, so I'm off to bed.

Introductions make people nervous, but are great at getting people to at least say something and learn something about them. True that it might suck to sit the whole time so maybe do some kind of exercise that has people work in a group and interview another person or 5. That way they walk around and then have that person say one intresting fact about someone else?

The problem is that most of them have zero to no english. I think I might have them do a how are you? introduction or maybe my name is or something. I still don't know what level they're going to be at.
