As many of you are aware, I play Judo, and recently have been getting heavily into it (4-5 practices a week). My reasoning is that I'm going to Japan, and want to have my skills up before I show up there, and they expect me to have the skills that my rank (3kyu brown belt) implies. I've been really enjoying it, but I hurt myself. My shoulder was sore last Thursday, and then I played again on Sat, and it's been hurting more since then. I've been told by two friends with medical backgrounds that I need to avoid using my right arm as much as possible. One said for 6 weeks, and the other said 2, and then we'll talk. I don't want to hear this! I'm feeling very childish about this, but last night I was told the magical words "rotator cuff injury", so I'm listening.
The worst part is that I was starting to really get some confidence on the mats and thinking about competing before I leave for Japan. On Saturday, I learned some really neat moves, and worked on left side throws because my shoulder hurt. When I go back, I can stick with that, which is the one good thing about this, because I am a right side dominant Judo player. In the mean time, I'm benched, and quite unhappy about it, but I guess I can just find some other way to stay in shape and start using my LA Fitness membersip again. My coach/sensei wants me to come an watch practices, but right now it just pisses me off. I'm angry at myself for getting the injury (I used poor technique, and then played on a compromised shoulder). I'll get over it, I just needed to bitch a little right now.
