Writer's Block: Ewww

What is one food that you refuse to try? Why?

While in Japan, there was only one food I refused to try. I tried natto several times, ate things that had bones or skin, and things with the consistency of mucus. (I do not recommend any of these things) The one thing I would not put in my mouth was whale flesh. It was cubed and fried, and appeared in our school lunch one day. I did not, and will not consume whale. I just couldn't, for ethical reasons. I couldn't eat Shamu. (I know, it probably wasn't a killer whale, but that's what came to mind when I thought about eating it).

I agree with you, however I think it will be a long while before I can try natto...exp. after Midori...lol

I think I can understand about the natto.

just watched a natoional geographic program about ppl in iceland eating rotted shark meat. i'm not too fond of eating any flesh, so refusing something would have to depend on the situation. :)

In a life-or-death situation, I probably would eat just about anything. Were these people eating rotted meat by choice?

They said it was viking food, so they still eat it during a yearly festival. Some ppl liked it and some didn't.

The thing about natto that puts me off is the consistency. I have truly dreadful sinuses, and natto feels like more of the same to me. I frequently feel similarly about konnyaku/konjac/shirataki, depending upon how it is prepared.

The idea of eating cetaceans of any kind is completely repugnant.

The thing I am completely squicked about eating is the brains of any creature. I would be a miserable failure as a zombie ;-)

I agree about the consistency of natto. Also, the smell is unpleasant. It's marketed as a health food in Japan, and loads of people really like it. Ick.

I've eaten crab brains. I don't like the taste or the consistency.
