The original subject was "Japanese TV: weirdness, direct to your living room". I think you'll see why I changed it.

They found the guy in the US who has an obsession with hamburgers (hamburger car, hamburger bed, etc). and the family that has their two train cars that they use for vacations.

Then, they show some Japanese cooking machines. For those of you too lazy to make your own sushi rice lumps, there's a machine that cooks the rice, and pops up little sushi size rice lumps. And don't forget the fried rice cooker. It's got a heat source, and wok that's attached to an arm that moves it over the heat. There's another arm that has a wooden utensil on it, that you place in the wok after pouring in the ingredients for your fried rice. Just pour it all in, and then the machine cooks the fried rice for you. I'm thinking this is probably good for something else, but if not, what a waste of space!

Now back to the US, for a talk about fleas. Apparently they're attracted to green light, btw. They showed a guy who has a flea circus and feeds them on his arm every day. EWWWWWW

Then a little Rescue 911 from the US (kids in danger).

Now, they're talking about the contest to have the tallest building in the world. Two buildings are under sconstruction right now, one in Taiwan, and one in Shanghai. Interesting points: after Shanghai group heard that the Taiwan building was going to be taller, they changed building plans to make their building 10 meters taller.

What I'm actually getting interested in is the engineering difficulties they have planned for. Taiwan has lots of earthquakes (I believe they said the highest incidence in the world), so they designed it to absorb the shock by swaying. Taiwan is in Typhoon country (#16 is headed here at the moment), and they realized they needed to do something about wind, so they created a counterweight inside the building so it can absorb the shock without swaying in the wind. Finally, they talked about the effect of planes flying into the building, and said that encasing the steel beams in concrete would prevent structural failure like what happened in New York.

Anyway, as I realized I was not only watching this program, but also relaying it to my weblog, I decided to change the subject to "I admit it, I'm a nerd" *sigh* :)

Oh, and don't worry. I have things to do tomorrow, and school starts on Wednesday, so the posting frequency will go back to normal.
