We had two on Sunday (7pm and 11:30pm), one Tuesday (8am), one yesterday (3am), and one just now (12am). Enough already!!! But hey, it's a hell of a lot better than having a realy big one. I only noticed the first and last one. Anyway, just thought I'd post about it.

Oh, I'm not liking typhoons so much either.

At least the earthquakes are little bit like California to ease the homesickness ...

Ohh typhoons! I remember those... when I was in Guam... Let's see back in 1995 I think and we had a cat 5 coming at us, luckily it dropped to a cat 4, but still did the infamous damage. I had typhoon duty that night in the comm center, 80+ degrees outside, 60 degrees inside (BRRRRRR). I had the fortune to have MREs and sleep in full winter jacket/BDUs on a fold out table as they had no cots (!!!???!!!). We got to the peak of the storm and being a old Hurricane hand from the NorthEast, I figured no biggie right? WRONG! I creeked the metal door open no more than a inch to shine a light outside and to see what I could, when the metal heavy door got PULLED by the winds completely open, nearly ripped off, and was sort of pinned, I on the other hand got sucked towards the door and had 3 of my comrades grab onto me to keep me from being sucked out. Little did I know the storm's intensity was so bad that it destroyed the Navy Weather Equipment, ripping them apart and pegging the sensors to the max - about 200+ MPH. I was able to pull the door with all 5 (another person came to grab me) and we secured the door shut till the storm was over.

Coconuts had damaged steel doors, twigs had been thrust thru palm trees, and Nuclear Doors on one aircraft hanger had collapsed because of the pressure difference, never mind the entire hanger had imploded. I saw whole brick walls BLOWN down by the wind and places that couldn't flood in 2 feet of water. It was amazing in the aftermath.

So I know what your going thru.

Oh yeah as a added note, while I have worked in the SF Bay area and lived in California Bay area for over 10 years now, the only time I ever felt the two earthquakes I went thru was in Guam. The first one was a rumble - wave that we heard coming like a train/low flying bomber, and felt the ground ripple under our feet, which was scary but was "coming at us" so expected. The second was complete fright fest, on a beautifully dull day, gorgeous sun, nice clouds, warm not hot temps, I sat with the A/C off and was lounging on the third floor listening to some tune as my second tour was coming to a close soon. Suddenly as I sat there it felt like someone grabbed the chair/floor and pulled it 3 feet to the left, just as I took a breathe and about to say "What the Fuck?" shifted right 3 feet back to where I was. The whole thing was less than a few second but totally terrifying with it's suddeness and strength.

Good fortunes and blessing on you and all you care for this day
