Does anyone know what this is? A friend sent me an attachment, two of them, and she said that they are pics. I am sure she wrote the email, so I doubt that it's anything bad. She said they're pictures. I am not familiar with pics in this format. What do I do with them?

This page gives a pretty good explanation of what it is and how to deal.

My recommendation? Tell your friend not to use Outlook. :)

With any attachment, mail your friend first and confirm they did actually send the mail. When an outlook virus goes around, it's stupidly easy to get someone's contacts list/inbox names and then mail everyone on that list with the virus. Thus, always confirm the friend did mean to send it before opening it.

There was other stuff beside the .dat file (she was trying to send pictures). I'm gong to ask her to resend it though. I usually erase attachments immediately if there is no content in the body of the message.
