and praise Norton forever (or at least for now). I have a computer again, and when I reinstalled livejournal, all of my settings were just as I left them. The only downside is that since I bought Norton in Japan, it's in Japanese, most of which my computer can't read (fortunately, there's enough that comes out as proper Japanese that I could figure it out). Anyway much rejoicing, and now I will go to bed.
