Only in Japan

A) They're showing the emergency drills at Ueno zoo as part of the news.
B) In training for a gorilla escape, they have some guy dress up in a plushie costume (disney character type), and be the gorilla, including pretending (I think, I was too busy boggling to actually listen) to be knocked out by a tranquilizer gun.
C) Then there was training for a poisonous snake escape, complete with fake snake (it looked like a tentacle, and thanks to caprine's influence, that sent my mind in a whole different direction)
D) And they had someone pretend to get bit by the snake, and went through the injection and CPR practice on a person. It looked like they actually injected something. I imagine it was saline or something.

Reality check: is this as weird as I think it is?

Well, that's part of the reason I don't watch the news in Japan. There's this thing called the rest of the world that they like to ignore, and it annoys me. (There has been ZERO mention of the Muhammed cartoons; riots in France; Abu Ghraib; Gitmo; and don't even get me started on the #%(*@ Olympic 'coverage')

Sorry, I had gotten in the bath to get pulled together for the day. Call's not possible, sorry. :( I'm out of here in about 10 minutes, just have to finish eating, put on shoes, get my stuff, wake up Nick, find a coat...you know, 10 minutes worth of stuff. *eyeroll*

First of all, let me just say: Japan is awesomely weird!

Is this weird? Hard to say; it would certainly be weird if it happened in America.

My gut reaction is that B and C are weird not matter what, D is somewhat tacky, and A is standard local news baloney.

First you need to establish whether or not Japan is part of reality.

Think of it like the Wizard Of Oz. In the real world that movie is full of some weird shit. In Oz, it's totally normal.
