"In preparation for his new commander-in-chief, Admiral Mullen is overseeing the final stages of a comprehensive military strategy review of the border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan — one of four such studies in the government — to guide Mr. Obama in his first days as president. More quietly, he has also had initial conversations with his top commanders about potential changes in the “don’t ask, don’t tell” law that allows gay men and lesbians to serve in the military as long as they keep their sexual orientation secret."

interesting. i am very doubtful any changes with DADTDP will come from within the military. especially not from those in the pentagon who are too old, too insulated, and have too much rank to have a good handle on what its like for 99.9 percent of those now serving. and if (positive) changes do come within, i imagine they will be minor and will not have much of a positive impact on the day to day lives of lgbt service members. i mean DADTDP was a change in policy purportedly made to make things better. DADTDP made them much, much worse.

obama needs to issue an executive order and be done with it. its what clinton should have done but was too chickenshit to do. the military wasn't integrated with the support of the top commanders. they resisted it. but in the end, they were good soldiers and they followed orders.

we'll see. i think obama has the guts to do a EO. the question is will his advisors let him.
