How do you like working with the La Jolla Symphony Choir? I am looking for a group to sing with that does more challenging work, but I have heard really mixed commentary about the LJSC's director from a few different sources.

I really enjoy working with David. The only gripe I have is that he and Ken sometimes don't address pitch issues early enough.

I was in the group for 6 years back when I was a student, then went away and I'm back now.

Basically, I've heard from a couple of people that his directing style with the chorus could reasonably be described as abrasive and at times unpleasant. I also had one person say that she thought he could be outright rude to support staff, but I don't recall the background context.

Are they talking about David or Stephen? We work mostly with David, but Stephen does more of the performances. I've only had the one performance with Stephen, so I don't know much about him. They've changed conductors since I was there as a student. David is the one I have worked with for a long time, and I think he's great. You could always come and check it out for yourself.
